Wrapped in Comfort is Rainbow Rhythm Inc.’s winter basic-needs initiative created specifically for children with sensory sensitivities, autism, developmental differences, and other disabilities that may affect how they experience clothing.
Wisconsin winters make appropriate cold-weather clothing essential, yet traditional coats and winter apparel are not always accessible for children with sensory needs. Tags, rough seams, bulky materials, restrictive fits, uncomfortable textures, and certain closures can create significant sensory discomfort and make it difficult for some children to tolerate necessary winter clothing.
Through Wrapped in Comfort, Rainbow Rhythm will provide qualifying children and families with sensory-considerate winter essentials such as coats, boots, gloves, hats, and comfortable winter apparel. Whenever possible, items will feature characteristics such as tagless designs, soft materials, comfortable seams, flexible fits, and easy-to-manage closures.
The program will prioritize children from economically disadvantaged and historically underserved households throughout Milwaukee and surrounding Wisconsin communities.
Wrapped in Comfort goes beyond a traditional winter clothing drive. Our goal is to ensure that children are not forced to choose between sensory comfort and staying warm. By addressing both economic barriers and sensory accessibility, Rainbow Rhythm can help children safely participate in school, transportation, outdoor activities, and everyday community life throughout Wisconsin’s winter months.
